Elephant Tusks Monument & Hindu Temple

Along Moi Avenue in Mombasa are four huge Elephant Tusks placed in honour of the visit of Queen Elizabeth of England when she first visited the city in 1952. This was during the colonial period. The Tusks are placed in a way that form an “M” shape which stands for Mombasa.

This is a photographic spot for any traveller visiting Mombasa. Proceed to one of the most impressive religious Hindu temples in town, a reference of great Art and Culture as displayed by its amazing decorations. Proceed to Fort Jesus Monument.

Fort Jesus & Mombasa’s Old Town

Located in the Arab old town in Mombasa, Fort Jesus Museum was once a military fortification built in 1593 to secure the safety of the Portuguese living on the East Coast of Africa. With its long history, fort Jesus is one of the most exceptional examples of the 16th century fortification and landmark in the history of this type of construction.

A visit to the fort provides a fantastic introduction to the history of Mombasa and the wars that took place between the Muslim Arabs and the Christian Europeans for control of the region.
