Malindi Mombasa North Coast

Malindi is on the north of Mombasa, a popular tourist destination with endless white sand beaches, plenty of outdoor activities to do and places to visit.

Malindi Activities

Once a local fishing village on the north coast of Mombasa, Malindi has grown to be one of the greatest beach resorts and the most lively, friendly and entertaining destination along the Kenyan coastline, north of Mombasa. Malindi’s colourful history dates back hundreds of years ago and became famous during the times of Vasco da Gama, a Portuguese explorer and one of the first European to visit the area.

Gedi Ruins, Vasco de Gama…

Malindi is full of activities to do and wonderful places to visit. Take a tour to Malindi Marine Park on a glass-bottom boat for viewing of some of the most wonderful and colourful marine life. This comes along with other aquatic sports and activities to enjoy while there. Visit the mysterious 12th century Gedi Ruins, an ancient town in the middle of nowhere which was abandoned for unknown reasons in Watamu. Gede ruins is now a historic monument which holds the remains of mosques, houses, tombs, King’s palace, sunken court and other interesting archaeological artefacts.

Churches, Mosques, Vasco da Gama Pillar…

Amid winding streets, visit the church of St. Francis Xavier, one of the oldest churches in East Africa. Don’t forget to check on the Vasco da Gama pillar, a prominent landmark with a lot of historical significance to the modern day Malindi. Step into Juma Mosque which was unfortunately used as a slave trading structure until slave trade was abolished.
