Lake Naivasha National Park – Boat Rides and the Wallowing Hippos
Lake Naivasha is 120 km north west of Nairobi. It’s a freshwater lake fringed by thick papyrus and home to wallowing hippos, boat rides and nature walks.
About Lake Naivasha National Park
Lake Naivasha is almost 13 km across, but its waters are shallow with an average depth of five metres. Lake area varies greatly according to rainfall, with an average range between 114 and 991 sq kms. At the beginning of the 20th century, Naivasha dried up and effectively disappeared due to the adversy climate effects. Thanks to heavy rains a few years later that caused the lake to reappear. Visit it before it disappears forever. God forbid!
Safaris and Game Viewing in Lake Naivasha
Lake Naivasha is a good place for safaris and game viewing. Much of the lake is surrounded by forests of the yellow barked Acacia Xanthophlea, known as the yellow fever tree. These forests abound with bird life turning Naivasha into a world class birding destination. The waters of the lake draw a great range of game to the shores. Giraffes, buffalos, colobus monkeys and the wallowing hippos are present.
