Getting Around While in Kenya: By Air

By Train

The Standard Gauge Railway, better known as the SGR or Madaraka Express is on. This is a relatively ‘high-speed’ train connecting Nairobi and Mombasa with online booking available. It takes 6 hours to travel between Nairobi and Mombasa which previously took more than 15 hours by the Kenya Railways old trains.

By Car

If you must move around by car, buses connecting major towns are available (around 9 hours from Nairobi to Mombasa). Taxis are also available especially in main cities and towns. Price charges must be negotiated and agreed upon or at least known before you get into the car or any public transport. Majority of the local people usually move around in a kind of mini-bus famously known as matatu operating on several routes.
