Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, Giraffe Centre and Karen Blixen, Nairobi

In Langata, approximately half an hour away from the city is the Giraffe Centre established to protect the endangered Rothschild giraffe only found in the grasslands of Africa. The centre is also home to several other wildlife including warthogs which freely roam the area together with the giraffes.

The main attraction for visitors is feeding these giraffes from a raised observation platform. Welcome to Karen Blixen House, a museum about the life and times of Karen Blixen in Kenya. Karen Blixen is the author of the book “Memories of Africa.”

Optional Lunch at Carnivore Restaurant

This is optional, but we suggest you never miss it especially if you have never been to Nairobi Carnivore Restaurant before. If you choose to go, we will head out to the Carnivore Restaurant for lunch at the end of this tour. Carnivore restaurant is considered ‘Africa’s Greatest Eating Experience’. This open-air meat specialty restaurant has strikingly different food, service and atmosphere. Every type of meat imaginable are roasted on traditional Masai swords over a huge visually spectacular charcoal pit that dominates the entrance of the restaurant.

The waiters then carry these swords around the restaurant, carving unlimited amounts of the prime meats onto sizzling, cast iron plates in front of you. Normal beef, pork and chicken, Crocodile and many others including Ostrich are some of the specials that you will find on the menu. A wide selection of salads, vegetable side dishes, and a variety of exotic sauces accompany the meat feast. Dessert and coffee follow this. The full meal including a soup course is at a set price.

Drinks are charged separate, but all food and desserts are included in the price. We recommend a dinner or lunch at the carnivore as an excellent welcome or farewell event after safari. The Carnivore is also home of the Simba Saloon, a delicious a la carte restaurant by day and a popular nightclub. The informal indoor/outdoor atmosphere, exceptional snacks and the pulsating rhythms of Africa combine to ensure an exciting ambiance.
